Information, not a betting service

Bet-RI explains how betting and gambling work for people in Rhode Island. We describe the state sportsbook at the Twin River and Tiverton casinos, the Bally’s online casino, Rhode Island Lottery games, racing, fantasy contests and offshore betting sites. We do not take wagers, offer games, keep player balances or process deposits and withdrawals.

Every sportsbook, casino, racebook, fantasy operator and lottery product mentioned on the site is run by someone else. When you open an account, the contract is between you and that operator, under its own rules. We cannot settle a disputed bet, release a payout, apply a promo code or close an account. Problems of that kind have to be raised with the operator first and, where it is licensed, with the authority that licenses it.

Gambling law is set state by state

In the United States, whether you may bet on sports, play casino games online or join a fantasy contest depends on the state you are in when you place the wager, not on where you live or where an operator is based. Rhode Island allows some products through the state and its partners and does not license others. Many neighbouring states have different rules again.

Some pages describe offshore sites. Those sites are not licensed or regulated by Rhode Island, and using them may carry legal, financial and practical risks, including slow withdrawals and little help if something goes wrong. Odds reflect probability plus the operator’s margin, and over time most bettors lose money. Never treat betting as a way to earn income, pay bills or win back losses.

Nothing on Bet-RI is legal, tax or financial advice. Where we write about how winnings are reported or taxed, we describe general rules that may not fit your situation. For decisions about your own money or legal position, speak to a qualified professional.

Accuracy of content

We try to keep pages accurate and to correct mistakes quickly. Our archive goes back several years, and older articles may describe rules, venues or operators as they were when written.
