The 2018 season saw the Patriots win the Super Bowl comfortably. Many are expecting Tom Brady and Co. to continue that form as we head into the 2019 campaign. Could an unprecedented seventh Super Bowl title await? There’s few who could rule them out.
Overview Of The New England Patriots 2018 Performance
The New England Patriots were written off at the start of the 2018 season, despite finishing the previous campaign as AFC East Champions. They reached the Super Bowl Final, too, but after defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in that game, many predicted the beginning of the end of the Patriots dominance.
And dominance is what the Patriots had achieved. Finishing top of their Division in each of the previous nine seasons, and 16 times out of 18 seasons, the Patriots became one of the most feared sides in NFL history. Not a side to lie down easily, New England roared back to win their sixth Super Bowl title in LIII.
The 2018 campaign wasn’t easy, though. New England Patriots struggled to an 11-5 record and faced LA Chargers in the Divisional Playoffs. Many were expecting the Chargers to win that one, but the Patriots used their experience to carve out a reasonably simple 41-28 victory.
New England Patriots went into the AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs as underdogs once more. This game proved much tougher, but the New England football side managed an OT win of 37-31 to reach their 11th Super Bowl.
So, to the Patriots v Rams in the NFL Super Bowl. Bettors from all over the world were expecting a flurry of points to be scored in LIII. What we saw was the opposite. Ratings dropped, and the so-called ‘Boring Bowl’ disappointed viewers and bettors alike.
What we did see, though, were fantastic defensive displays, from the New England Patriots in particular. After the midway point, the Patriots made their superiority count and ran out 13-3 winners.
Patriot Julian Edelman won the Super Bowl MVP in a superb performance, and New England Patriots fans will be hoping he and his teammates can take that form into the 2019 campaign.
